5 Dunedin Food Favs

New to Dunedin or just don’t know where to go? We’ve got you covered with these 5 spots that have been known from students as awesome hang out venues to avoid the stresses of university or as part of a good weekend out!

1) I'm 100% guilty of getting a coffee and bagel from Hussey & Laredo (located outside of UniBar, Great King Street). The guys that work there are genuine lads, work hard, make amazing coffees and bagels and are always up for a good chat. Plus they are pretty damn distinctable in their yellow caravan so go check them out and support them! Their Instagram shows all their choices! Yum!

2) If you're not the coffee and bagel kind of gal (or guy), the Sushi Station (located opposite central library, 70 Albany Street) has the best rice balls in North Dunedin, even the Critic gave them a ? review saying that “the rice was a flavour explosion, and it was moist enough that it arguably didn’t need any soy sauce...The chicken was a winner. Well marinated and succulent, with a very generous helping of sauce”. When I personally went to buy my own rice ball (a teriyaki chicken), the owner of the Sushi Station was so stoked about the review she showed me personally! So i’m just here adding it to the list because they are just absolutely awesome. Efficient customer service, reasonable prices and the best location (plus they are open for longer hours during exams end of semester, BARGAIN!).

3) The next place to get great food (or drinks) is definitely Zucchini Bros (located in the Exchange, 286 Princes Street). This Italian Restaurant is a little on the pricey side, but they have great choices with an extensive list of pizza and pasta (not to mention the booze). I especially recommend their special blue cheese and caramelised onion pizza. I have never been disappointed by this bad boy with it's thin crust, full of flavor and always comes in hot. Great place for students to take out their partners to or have it delivered for a special night to their flats.

 4) Want a few drinks before heading to clubs in the octy (Octagon) or just want to drink in a cozy, intimate place? Albar (located in the Octagon, 135 Stuart Street) is the perfect place for this. Wide range of adults here drinking from mature students to residents living nearby wanting a nice night out with a few bevvies and nuts. I personally recommend their mulled wine, where it comes in hot and warms you up fast from the freezing temperatures outside. Great location, range of drinks, music is incredible (no D&B for once!) and great a atmosphere.

5) Hungover or want something healthy and filling? Liquid Assets (again located in the heart of the octagon, 8 The Octagon) serve a wide range of great tasting cold-pressed juices, fresh smoothies, homemade soups, local espresso and tea! They have offered their services to DeliverEasy so they can come to you when you can’t get to them! Not only this, for students offer a discount which always makes life just a little  sweeter. There are options for everyone: vegetarians, vegans, pescitarians and so on.
